POSITION:  DIRECTOR OF PRODUCT MARKETING

Location:  Sunnyvale, CA/ Remote, US
Experience: 7 – 15 Years

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Product Marketing to join our team. This role is a unique blend of strategic leadership and hands-on execution. The successful candidate will be a player-coach, capable of driving product marketing initiatives while also being prepared to roll up their sleeves and execute tasks. As the solo hire for a new product initially, this role has the potential to build and lead a team over time. This role will report to the head of marketing and work directly with the CEO, providing a unique opportunity to make a direct impact on the positioning and future of the company, influencing the direction of product and company strategy and messaging.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive product marketing strategy aligned with business goals.
    • Define the go-to-market strategy, including positioning, messaging, and competitive differentiation.
    • Collaborate with Product Management, Sales, and Customer Success to ensure alignment across teams.
  • Content Creation and Synthesis:
    • Partner with product and business leadership to ideate, create, and synthesize content across various formats, including blog posts, whitepapers, case studies, and product videos.
    • Develop compelling product messaging and content that resonates with target audiences.
    • Ensure all content is aligned with the overall product strategy and business objectives.
  • Execution:
    • Manage product launches and ensure successful adoption of new features and products.
    • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to inform product positioning and strategy.
    • Develop sales enablement materials, including product collateral, presentations, and battle cards.
  • Customer Insights:
    • Gather and analyze customer feedback to inform product development and marketing strategies.
    • Conduct persona research and develop detailed buyer personas.
    • Use data-driven insights to refine messaging and improve campaign effectiveness.
  • Scalable Delivery Model:
    • Build a scalable delivery model by working with best-in-class service partners and agencies in product marketing to bootstrap the function.
    • Identify and collaborate with external partners to enhance product marketing capabilities and efficiencies.
    • Plan and execute strategies to scale the product marketing function effectively.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Initially act as a solo contributor with the potential to build and lead a product marketing team.
    • Mentor and develop future team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
    • Hire and build out the team as the company grows and the product marketing function expands.
  • Performance Measurement:
    • Set and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of product marketing initiatives.
    • Use analytics to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and make data-driven decisions.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Business, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in product marketing, preferably within the SaaS industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully launching and marketing software products.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and synthesize content, from ideation to execution, in collaboration with product and business leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Experience in building and leading high-performing teams is a plus.
  • Experience working with service partners and agencies to bootstrap and scale product marketing functions.
  • Proven excellence in delivering thought leadership content.
  • Strong skills in content delivery, positioning, messaging, and content strategies.

Compensation

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience, ranging from $130,000 to $210,000 per year.
  • Performance-based bonuses tied to individual and company performance.
